Creating a steady stream of leads is vital for any small business. Having a consistent flow of leads allows business owners to year-over-year grow their contact/email list, sales opportunities, customer base and revenue.  Leads help your business grow but how do you generate them and what do you do with them? Following these six steps will help you gather leads and grow your business.

1. Start With a Plan

Making a plan with different strategies will help you reach more potential customers. Strategies can include producing and publishing blog content, creating and posting to social media, and an email marketing strategy. Your audience isn’t a one-size-fits-all so having different strategies and types of content allows them to interact and receive your messaging in a way that is most comfortable for them.

2. Publish Content

Now that you have a plan, you can craft your content around it. Think of how you prefer your content. Is it in a video? Is it through reading? You want to be sure you are mixing it up enough for your audience. Try creating video, blogs, infographics, whitepapers, and podcasts, a little bit of everything. The different types of content will also help you when it comes time to post on social media.

3. Social Media

A social media app is probably one of the first apps you open on your phone each morning. It is how most people learn what’s going on in the world and keep up to date with their favorite companies. From a business perspective, social media allows to reach an audience you may have never encountered without it.

4. Email Marketing

Did you know that email marketing generates $42 for every $1 spent on it? It is one of the most effective messaging channels and a common way to guide customers from a prospect to a buyer. Using email campaigns, you can get a lot of information out quickly in a variety of formats. You can include something for everyone, like a blog, podcast and a video. Then, you can track which of those content pieces worked best with your subscribers to know to continue including it in your emails.

5. Track and Analyze

Tracking what works and doesn’t work is important. It teaches you what your audience likes. If your podcasts are listened to and clicked on, keep creating new podcasts. It also teaches you what doesn’t work and what content to create less of.

6. Rinse and Repeat

After you see what works and isn’t working you can adjust your plan. You can then follow this plan over and over as you continue getting leads.
